All this changed radically as the series swung into season four. Gone are Doris'' sons, her uncle Buck, her magazine compadres Michael, Ron, and Myrna, and the Paluccis. As a nod to the popularity of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Doris Martin has been redefined as a slightly more sophisticated Mary Richards type; a swinging bachelorette who is now a full-fledged writer for "Today''s World." John Dehner has been installed as Doris'' new editor, Cy Bennett; also added to the cast is Jackie Joseph as Bennett''s ditzy secretary Jackie Parker. Peter Lawford also joins the cast as Doris'' boyfriend, Dr. Peter Lawrence. Among the guest stars featured are Bob Crane, Alan Hale, Charles Nelson Reilly, Van Johnson, Barbara Hale, Rory Calhoun, Werner Klemperer and Bernie Kopell.
