“This fresh set of heart wrenching beauties has been a well-kept secret to date… a highly impressive first album.” - Ireland Review

"So brilliant, so moving." Annie Lennox

"Music Is My Silence is the kind of album that's sure to find its way into the music collections of every dyke in the land. Go out and buy it today, or, better still, catch one of O'Hooley's shows. She's about to start a national tour and you'd be crazy to miss her."  Rainbow Network

"This album is a highly original and thoughtful record, which bravely steps away from the plethora of soppy folk guitar musings of her peers. Impressive."  Music Dash

"This isn't background music, it's music to listen to, to think to, to kiss your lover to. And music to sit alone with and remember. It's music to cry to. It's good, sound and entirely original, and well worth a place in any self-respecting lesbian's CD collection."

In 2002, Huddersfield singer-songwriter Belinda O'Hooley won Stars In Their Eyes as Eurythmics diva Annie Lennox. Then Belinda's mother died, marking a significant turning point in Belinda's life and career. She bought a piano and began to write and the result is this, her debut album.

Music Is My Silence showcases her startlingly original and deeply moving stories, combining haunting lyrics with rich piano soundscapes. An accomplished musician in both folk and jazz, Belinda draws from these and other influences, such as P.J.Harvey and Joni Mitchell to create music that has been described as 'gloriously commanding'. Her songs explore her sexuality, her Irish past, losing someone and the relationship between music and our moods.

Gay Community News, Ireland Review July 2004 The Choice Cut "Belinda OHooley has a wretched claim to fame that has left her both outwardly embarrassed and secretly proud. In 2001, she won Stars In Their Eyes thanks to her tight take on Eurythmics diva Annie Lennox. At that point, Belinda had never entertained the idea of writing her own material, preferring to perform reliable old favourites to satisfied punters. The death of her mother, however, was a significant turning point in Belindas life and career. She bought a piano and began to write. The result is a rather glossy debut album. Kicking off with the brash big band climber All That Remains, this fresh set of heart wrenching beauties has been a well-kept secret to date. O'Hooley can even be forgiven for the inclusion of the massive eight-minute sprawler Blanket Of Night, which is a gloriously commanding ballad. Moon Over Water sets the precedent for most of this project, sinking slyly into mellow sub-consciousness, thanks to its subtle melodic props. Struck by jazz bruised freestyle throughout, Izuko No More lends an admirable peak to this accomplished endeavour. Belinda OHooleys pink pitch as an openly gay performer is also adequately strengthened by the albums closing track, With Her. A subdued salute to a certain lovely lass, this piano-slide sonnet is a beautiful and fitting end to a highly impressive first album."
